Flipped Learning

Flipped Learning is a non-traditional teaching method that requires students to do some pre-class learning through online resources provided by the teacher thus better preparing them for the in-class activities. Many times the results of this type of teaching is increased engagement, personalized learning, and accessibility for all students.

How to Create a Flipped Lesson

1. Create a In-Class Lesson Plan
  • Pick a standard in PSESAS
  • Use AI tools to help create an idea of activities and build of it (We used Chat GPT and Figma)

2. Create a Pre-Class Slideshow Presentation
  • We used Canva to create the presentation
3. Screen Record Teaching on the Slideshow
  • We used Screenpal

#1) Lesson Plan

#2) Pre-Class Presentation

*AI tools are a good resource to get ideas from, but lesson plans shouldn't entirely be AI generated as AI doesn't necessarily make lessons engaging or assessable for certain students
*After using AI, teachers can adjust lesson plans as we did to fit the specific students and make it more engaging

4. Have Students Interact During or After the Video

#4) Pre-Class Question

  • This will help to see what students are listening to the video
  • We used Flip to ask a question regarding the video
5. Create Additional Resources and Assessments for In-Class Teaching
  • We used Canva to create a poster
  • We used Lumio to create an interactive in class presentation
  • We used Google Forms to create an assessment

#5) In-Class Resources

6. Make Sure All Resources are Organized and Stored Somewhere for Students to Acess
  • We put all of our resources in this Google Classroom Link

#6) Resources in One Place

Danielson Framework FFT in Flipped Lesson
Domain 1 Planning and Preparation
Domain 2 Learning Environments
  • Flipped Lessons entirely have to do with planning and preparation in the sense that they prepare students better for the lesson at class through the resources they interact with at home.
  • Flipped Lessons allow learning environments to move faster as students come to class already with some prior knowledge in their schema that can help with additional knowledge the is taught to be adapted or assimilated easier.
Domain 3 Learning Experiences
Domain 4 Principled Teaching
  • Flipped Lessons allow the learning experience for all students to be more interactive at home and in the classroom. With the interactive materials use in and out of the classroom, students become hands on with the material thus preparing them to suceed in learning the curriculum.
  • Flipped Lessons are a great way to show professional development in the area of technology in the classroom. It really uses technology to benefit students by taking the initiative in planning before class to better prepare students for class.
